SVEC, in partnership with the city of Winchester and Reading Landscapes, has created the Right Tree, Right Place tree canopy program for select properties in the City. The goal is to remove over-mature, declining trees that conflict with overhead electric lines and replace them with more appropriate trees to create a safe, healthy and attractive tree canopy.

The only trees being considered for this program are ones in the City-owned public right-of-way. Contact with property owners began in the fall of 2018.

How Does the Program Work?

After identifying and assessing trees that present conflicts with electric lines, representatives from the cooperative and/or the City will meet with homeowners to discuss options for tree replacement. The cooperative’s contractor will remove the targeted trees and the City will collect the fallen branches. Reading Landscapes, which is based in Winchester, will then replant the appropriate tree in the best location.

Please know that there is no guarantee of replanting if underground utilities are found during the removal process.

If you have any questions, please contact the cooperative at (800) 234-7832. For more information on tree safety and power lines, please visit our Tree Safety page.
