Generator Safety
Generators can be wonderful to have in the event of a power outage. However, they can produce enough power to cause injury, death, or property damage when used incorrectly:

Outage Preparedness Kit
As with any storm, whether it’s an ice storm or a hurricane, it’s a good idea to be prepared for potential outages. Store your outage preparedness kit in a designated place so it is easy to find should the need arise.
Make sure that your cell phone is fully charged, in the event of an outage
Canned or packaged foods, powdered milk and beverages, dry cereal, peanut butter, crackers, etc. (at least a 3-day non-perishable food supply)
Water (for drinking purposes, one gallon per person per day; fill bathtub and other containers)
First Aid Kit
Water purification tablets (can be purchased at your local pharmacy)
Bleach (without lemon or any other additives)
Extra prescription medicine and/or medical supplies
Candles, matches, and lantern
Fuel (be sure to fill up your car’s gas tank when storm warnings are set)
Fire extinguisher
Battery-operated radio
Flashlights and extra batteries
Toiletries
Can opener (non-electric)
Disposable plates and eating utensils
Emergency cooking facilities
Baby food, diapers, and formula
Portable cooler
Extra blankets or sleeping bags
An alternate source of heat
