Council on Alcoholism, Lord Fairfax: To replace the HVAC units at its Lord Fairfax House, a residential halfway house for people recovering from addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Godfrey Miller Home: To subsidize the cost of meals to older adults in the community who have limited financial meals.

Love to NIC: To provide necessities, such as shoes, socks and clothing, and meals to area homeless.

Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter: To supplement the utility assistance program to lessen the long-term financial impact of the pandemic on local households.

Winchester/Frederick County

Henry & William Evans Home for Children: To recarpet the main living room of the house and one of the parent units, improving the “home-life” feel and help to provide a safe, comfortable home for residents and staff.

Highland Food Pantry: To supplement the emergency financial aid budget, which covers expenses for utility bills, rental assistance and other everyday needs such as gas vouchers.

Literacy Volunteers: To expand its established reading curriculum and supplement it with classroom sets of level-appropriate novels and short stories.

Timber Ridge School: To improve the efficiency of utilities by purchasing three Energy Star-certified refrigerators for dormitories.

Wheels for Wellness: To provide free, door-to-door transportation to medical appointments and treatment for those in the region with no other means of transportation.

Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS): To provide two months of service for a temporary shower and toilet facility at the current site of the shelter in downtown Winchester.

AbbaCare (Winchester/Frederick County) to provide 10 car seats for new mothers and fathers to allow them safe transportation for their new family member. Clients receive a new car seat as a gift for completing four parenting classes. Mothers with immediate needs may be provided one, too.

Arc of Augusta for the non-waiver scholarship program, which provides funding to enable people with intellectual and development disabilities who lack sufficient funds to attend day support programs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Virginia (Winchester/Frederick) for program management, to include training and coaching calls, for the Campaign for Men, which matches 12 new Big Brothers with assigned Little Brothers.

Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (Augusta County) to acquire fresh produce for distribution to thousands of individuals through partner food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters throughout SVEC’s service territory.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County toward Family Engagement and Empowerment Dinners (FEED), designed to empower club members and their families with the skills, knowledge and confidence to prepare healthy and affordable meals.

Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery (Rockingham) to focus on presentations and outreach in rural communities to reach more individuals in the future.

Elegius Mini Equine Sanctuary (Highland County) for an expanded youth employment opportunity – particularly for those who might have a disability and/or are unable to find employment in Highland County – at the sanctuary, which provides permanent housing and care for injured/ailing miniature horses, donkeys, mules and ponies.

Elkton Area United Services (Rockingham) for direct financial aid for clients for programs related to emergency assistance, food pantry, traveler’s aid, holiday cheer, senior citizens, free reading books, GED classes, and school supplies.

Faith in Action (Winchester/Frederick County) to provide free, door-to-door transportation to non-emergency, life-sustaining medical appointments and treatments for those in the area without other means of transportation.

Family Promise of Shenandoah County for funding for medications, hotel stays and gas vouchers for families in crisis. They have lost housing and employment and have no shelter available.

Glossbrenner United Methodist Church (Augusta County) To enhance the HELP (Health Equipment Loan Program), which is run by a collective of churches and civic organizations to loan out equipment for free to people who need it.

Honor Flight-Top of Virginia (Winchester/Frederick) to help cover expenses related to no-expense missions for veterans to Washington, D.C., where they visit memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.

Laurel Center (Winchester/Frederick) to provide funding for new emergency shelter and outreach center to expand its domestic and sexual violence shelter and support services.

Lord Fairfax Community College (Page County) to support the needs of the Luray-Page County Center through its “Evening with the Stars” program for scholarships and other projects.

Page One (Page County) for rent, electricity, fuel, and food to help make a difference in the lives of many struggling families trying to meet basic needs when they have a major emergency (sickness, job loss, car repair, special needs).

Rotary Club of Harrisonburg Foundation for construction of a playground at a new athletics-oriented park east of Harrisonburg.

Shenandoah Agency Area on Aging toward the purchase of a new replacement van for its senior center and Meals on Wheels program. The new van will fill a void and help the organization avoid shutting down its services in case of an issue with its primary van.

Shenandoah Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (Frederick County) for New equipment, including climbing ropes and harnesses, for Camp Rock Enon, which is used weekly over the summer months and every weekend during the off season to offer not only physical activity for youth, but a chance to instill confidence in their ability to overcome fear.

Shenandoah County 4H to hire a summer intern to lead youth educational program and shadow 4H agent to help with other initiatives.

United Way of the Northern Shenandoah Valley (Winchester) to increase the capacity to bring on more volunteers and possibly an additional part-time staff member for the Valley Assistance Network, a community collaborative to connect individuals and families with the services they need to move from crisis to financial security.

United Way of Greater Augusta for Imagination Library, an early literacy program, that provides children ages 0 to 5 with a new, free, high quality and age appropriate book each month by mail.

Valley Program for Aging Services (Augusta County) to help cover the cost of food for the Meals on Wheels Program. The amount should cover more than 100 meals.

Warren Coalition The Coalition has a program called EASE that is for students in 6th-12th grades. EASE (Easing Anxiety and Stress Everyday) will use the evidenced based COPE (Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment) program which uses cognitive behavioral therapy in a 7 lesson curriculum to help teens learn to manage their anxiety and stress and help alleviate depressive symptoms.

Second Cycle (August 2019)

Choices of Page County – To help complete a rehabilitation project for parts of its emergency shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.

Elegius Mini Equine Sanctuary (Highland) – To expand its ability to offer employment opportunities to people with disabilities and young people who have difficulty finding work in the rural community.

Elkton Area United Services (Rockingham) – To direct financial aid of clients through the emergency assistance program, including housing, electric, fuel, water and medication needs.

Faith in Action (Winchester) – To pay for expenses related to providing free, door-to-door transportation for medical appointments and treatments.

Families Reaching Out Group, FROG (Winchester) – To purchase new underwear to help children in need through its predominant program, Froggy’s Closet, a store in downtown Winchester.

Hope Distributed (Rockingham) – To purchase food and maintain vehicles that pick up food for the organization’s food pantry.

Page Alliance for Community Action – To help establish and promote the “Hidden in Plain Sight” program, which aims to educate parents and caregivers of the common indicators of unhealthy behavior in their child’s room.

Stewart Middle School FFA (Augusta) – To create a “school farm” by building a small, dual-purpose barn and greenhouse that will show about 250 middle school students how their food is grown or produced.

First Cycle (January 2019)

Augusta Health Foundation – For the Cancer Bridge Fund, which provides help to cancer patients who are unable to afford the necessities of life during their treatment. The fund has been in existence for nearly two decades providing for patients classified as indigent or working poor.

Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity – To support multiple families with critical home repair, preservation and weatherization in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. A priority is to support aging-in-place families because a crucial component aging adults face is maintaining independence as disabilities or injuries occur and if their homes need certain mobility-related repairs.

Catholic Outreach – To help house homeless men and women in Shenandoah County. The St. John Bosco Catholic Outreach runs an emergency hotline, two food pantries, thrift store and more, but recognizes an additional need exists to provide shelter for the homeless.

New Directions – To cover material and labor expenses to continue building a privacy fence at the confidential shelter that serves victims of violence in Augusta County and the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. The privacy fence will provide residents a safe area to be outdoors without worry as they continue their journey to healing, self-empowerment and independence.

Page Free Clinic – To help pay for a dental chair and dental light to be used to implement dental services at the clinic for Page County residents who normally would not be able to afford such care. The short-term goal is to have dental services at least once a month, and free to patients.

People Helping People – To provide financial assistance to people in Rockingham County who find themselves homeless, between jobs or under-employed, leaving them struggling to meet basic needs. People Helping People is a grassroots, faith-based mission that provides a coordinated and equitable system of helping people facing financial crisis.

Rockingham Library Association – To support the Summer Reading Games through the Massanutten Regional Library. The annual program, which will from June through mid-August this summer, serves to counteract the loss of reading skills that often occur during the summer months for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Second Cycle (July 2020)

Augusta County

Augusta at Play – to increase accessible and inclusive play value at each Augusta County elementary school.

Augusta Health Foundation – to provide financial support for cancer patients through the Cancer Care Bridge Fund.

Blue Ridge Community College Educational Foundation – to support Lunch 2 Go, a program that seeks to address the pervasiveness of food insecurity on campus.

Page County

Page Free Clinic – to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and diabetic supplies.

Page One – to provide emergency fuel assistance to Page County households and individuals.

Rockingham County

Sadie Rose Foundation – for operational expenses toward offering support to families and individuals who have lost a child, including through pregnancy loss and miscarriage.

Salvation Army Corps of Harrisonburg – to help fund the replacement of equipment in its shelter kitchen.

Way to Go Inc. – to provide essential transportation services to low-income workers in Rockingham County.

Shenandoah County

Grandparents as Parents – to assist families with food, loss of shelter, medical and/or emotional needs.

Winchester/Frederick County

Families Reaching Out Group – to pay for a week’s worth of clothing for foster children, to include tops/bottoms, pajamas, underwear, shoes and more.

Winchester Presbyterian Church – to support the Helper Fund, which provides emergency assistance to area residents.

Beverley Manor Middle School – For the counseling department to purchase binders for students whose families cannot financially afford to buy them.

Habit for Humanity of Staunton/Augusta/Waynesboro – To provide critical home repairs for at-risk seniors in the area.

Valley Career and Technical Center – Toward the purchase of a Farm Bots Farming Machine, which will be used to grow vegetable crops for the center’s culinary arts program.

Page Alliance for Community Action – To offer free swimming lessons for disadvantaged elementary-age youth.

Rockingham County

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County – For support on matching volunteer “bigs” with young “littles” and to expand services to more than 100 children on the waiting list.

Briery Branch Community Club – To make safety upgrades to its community center.

People Helping People – To provide financial assistance to people who find themselves struggling to meet basic needs while homeless, between jobs or underemployed.

Shenandoah County

Family Promise – For H.U.S.H. (Help Us Stabilize Housing), an ongoing project that supports and assists families as they work on becoming stable and self-supportive again.

Shenandoah County Health Ministries Coalition – To support funding of the services of Faith Community Nursing, which provides ministry and promotes wholistic health to many members of small, rural churches with aging populations.

St. John Bosco Outreach Program – To provide financial aid for utilities, rent, medicine, food and lodging. More than 1,000 needy families are in the database.

Winchester/Frederick County

Gore Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. – Toward the purchase of a new heart monitor/defibrillator.

Highland Food Pantry – To supplement the emergency financial aid budget to provide food and other assistance in need and to engage the community in the fight to end hunger.

Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum – To enhance the Native American Longhouse of the Eastern Woodlands exhibit, such as adding costumes, pretend food items and a make-believe fire pit.

Sinclair Health Clinic – To support and deliver quality health care services to low-income residents.

Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter – To help cover medical expenses incurred by volunteer nurses, EMTs and certified nursing assistants who provide basic care.

Winchester Education Foundation – Toward the Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center, which will train and equip youth and adults to meet the demands of the regional job market. It is scheduled to open in 2021.

Third Cycle (October 2021)

Augusta County

MaDee Project: For financial support to pediatric cancer patients and their families.
Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta: To provide life-impacting repairs and accessibility modifications for one of its elderly, disabled homeowners, who is also raising her young granddaughter.

Page County

Page Free Clinic: To offset expenses for equipment and volunteer support for bringing a Remote Area Medical clinic to Page County in July 2022. These remote clinics are a major nonprofit provider of free pop-up clinics for those in need.

Rockingham County

Any Given Child Shenandoah Valley: To support a comic mural residency with Charlottesville-based author and artist Laura Lee Gulledge. One of the major initiatives of Any Given Child is to provide live arts experiences for K-8 students in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County schools.

Blue Ridge CASA for Children: To support an additional advocate manager. Blue Ridge CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) recruits, trains, supports and supervises volunteer advocates to help children in the area navigate through difficult and traumatic times.

Central Valley Habitat for Humanity: To support adding a critical home repair program, defined as improving the safety of homes and addressing issues of deferred maintenance that contribute to a home’s deterioration, diminished functionality, or loss of value.

Pilot Club of Harrisonburg: To promote brain safety and awareness, including the purchase and distribution of 80 helmets for the Salvation Army Santa program and dolls to assist residents with dementia at two local facilities.

Shenandoah Valley Junior Golf Foundation: To support programming such as Overcoming Barriers, which takes people with special needs to various facilities to participate in different sports and activities.

Skyline Literacy: To help support increasing access to basic literacy (reading, writing and math), ESL (English as a Second Language) and citizenship instruction for adult native-born and foreign-born residents of Rockingham and Shenandoah counties.

Winchester/Frederick County

Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging: To provide a hot nutritious noontime meal for any resident age 60 or older free of charge at its senior centers. The centers provide the opportunity to fellowship and offer programs related to nutrition education, healthy aging information, exercise, and other current events.

Sinclair Health Clinic: For essential medical supplies needed to meet the healthcare needs of its growing patient population. Sinclair Health Clinic is the only affordable primary care provider for uninsured residents of Winchester and Frederick and Clarke counties.

Augusta County

Ride with Pride: To support its goal of serving those with physical, emotional, and developmental special needs through a wide range of therapeutic equine activities.

Highland County

Elegius Equine Mini Sanctuary: To assist with the youth employment program for young people (high school and college students) and individuals with disabilities who would have a difficult time finding jobs in the rural community.

Page County

Page One: To continue its humanitarian mission of operating a food pantry and providing family financial assistance regarding prescriptions, medical care, mortgage payments, rental assistance, and payments for vital utilities.

Rockingham County

Brain Injury Connections: To assist brain injury survivors in accessing life skills training to support their daily living needs. Many clients continue to struggle with social isolation and rely on the organization’s support groups.

Rockingham Educational Foundation: To support an innovative learning grant, which asks educators to provide a learning experience that actively engages students and can be replicated at other schools.

Bridge of Hope: To support the rental assistance program, designed to first identify safe and sustainable housing for a homeless family. It affords families the opportunity to pay off debt, increase credit scores, invest in career training, look for a better job, or build savings.

Shenandoah County

Shenandoah Valley Lutheran Ministries: For the purchase of diapers toward A Small Hand, a toddler and infant pantry that serves Shenandoah County residents who are enrolled in government assistance.

Winchester/Frederick County

Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum: To support programming that encourages learning through play at the Winchester-based children’s museum.

Winchester Little Theatre: To support WLT4Kids, a theatrical immersion experience in which youth learn all aspects of theater during a summer session.

Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter: To offer conflict resolution training to staff and rental of a portable toilet to accommodate transportation challenges for clients, who sometimes must travel up to 30 minutes by bus to reach a shelter.

Highland Medical Center: To assist with costs associated with holding COVID vaccination clinics.

Arise of Page County: To provide needed shelter, meals and a safe place for homeless area residents.

Page Alliance for Community Action: To support paying an instructor who will provide free swim lessons at Hawksbill Recreation Park in Stanley.

Rockingham County

Briery Branch Community Club: For landscaping around the club, the only gathering place for meetings, reunions, receptions and the like.

James Madison University Foundation: To support the university’s Valley Scholars program in its effort to hold a summer camp entitled “Solar Challenge Project – Exploring Solar Energy.”

Lacey Spring Community Food Pantry: To help fund the enclosing of the Edom United Methodist Church pavilion to make it warmer and drier during the winter months.

Shenandoah County

Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter: To supplement its in-house utility assistance program to assist families or households struggling to pay their bill because of COVID-related conditions.

Strasburg Community Library: To help fund basic needs, such as ink cartridges, large print books, audio books and staffing.

Warren County

Warren County Habitat for Humanity: To assist with costs of its homeownership education program for low-income families.

Winchester/Frederick County

Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity: To expand its critical home repair program into Shenandoah County.

Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum: To support programming that encourages learning through play at the Winchester-based children’s museum.

Special Love: To provide emergency financial relief, such as utilities, rent and mortgage, for families battling childhood cancer.

Wheels for Wellness: To provide access and transportation to health care, at no cost, to clients of the organization formerly known as Faith in Action.
