- Easements are legal documents granting SVEC access to property for the purpose of constructing, operating, and maintaining equipment and lines.

To further support these efforts, and clarify the scope of existing utility easements, the Code of Virginia was updated with language in Section 55.1-306.1 Utility easements; expansion of broadband to include existing utility prescriptive easements as instruments for installation of broadband equipment.
