Youth Tour

capitol-2In 2018, Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative will sponsor an all-expense-paid trip for three current high school juniors to Washington, DC to attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.  This year, the Youth Tour is being held from June 10-14, and more than 1,600 students from 44 states will attend.  Students will be able to learn more about their country, American history, Cooperatives, and interact with their elected officials.

The Youth Tour is five exciting days packed with activities in our Nation’s capital, and a great opportunity for students to see their nation’s capital up close, learn about the political process, and meet peers from across the country.

Potential activities include:

·       Dinner Boat Cruise on Potomac
·       Newseum
·       Monuments
·       Baltimore Orioles Game
·       Arlington National Cemetery Tour
·       Pentagon Tour
·       Capitol Hill Day/Congressional Visits
·       Performance at Arlington Sight Theatre
·       All States Dinner/Dance/Farewell Event

To participate in the program, students must be high school juniors and their parent(s) or guardian(s) must receive electric service from Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative.  Final selection is based on an application and a personal interview.

The deadline to apply in 2018 has passed.
