Brian K. Plum

Brian K. Plum seeks a second term as an SVEC director, running unopposed for the seat from Page County.

“I am a lifelong Shenandoah Valley resident, as are my parents and their parents before them. The Shenandoah Valley is my home, and I want to continue doing everything I can to make it a better place,” he says.

Plum currently serves as the chair of SVEC’s governance committee and is a member of the compensation & benefits committee. He was first elected in June 2018. As part of a transition in overall board governance, the next term for the cooperative’s Page County director seat will run three years.

Plum is chief executive officer and a director of Blue Ridge Bank and Blue Ridge Bankshares Inc. He is a certified public accountant licensed in Virginia holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics from Eastern Mennonite University, a master’s degree in accounting from James Madison University and a master of business administration from the Darden Business School at the University of Virginia.

Plum has served the community in various roles through the years, including as treasurer of Choices Council on Domestic Violence; trustee and past treasurer of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation; treasurer and past master at Lafayette Lodge No. 137, AF & AM; past treasurer of the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce; and member of the Luray Rotary Club.

“I have numerous friends and family members across the SVEC footprint. That connectivity ensures I’m dialed into what’s on the mind of our members so I can best use my talents to represent those interests,” Plum says.

He says the most important part of serving on a board such as SVEC’s is ensuring the strategic, foundational elements of an organization are on solid footing for the future.

“The decisions we make in how we obtain, distribute and price electricity has an impact on all parts of our lives,” Plum says. “These are important decisions with meaningful consequences.”
